Welcome to Lessons From Living!  I am so excited you have joined us.  I want to begin by letting you know the purpose behind this website, blog and podcast.

I have become increasingly saddened by the way we talk to each other in this country, and the subject matter that we tend to focus upon.  Maybe you have noticed this, as well? One of my favorite verses is Phillipians 4:8: Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.  This seems to be a good rule of thumb to practice throughout our lives: cultivate excellence in what we think about, and what we share.

Some might think this is limiting–but actually the subject matter that would qualify under such a list is enormous, and wide open.  And just because we are focusing on excellence does not mean that we can not debate.  I would simply like to see the level of discourse elevated in today’s world.  Despite what many people think, it is possible to debate opinions without the goal being to destroy the other person, or win at all costs.  Winning should look like coming to an honest appreciation of each other’s positions.

I recently heard Donald Miller comment that he thought the wrong people have the microphone in our society.  This forum is my attempt to make sure that the microphone gets into the right hands!  There are so many amazing people who have inspiring stories to share–it’s time someone put a mike in front of them.

To that end, if you know any everyday heroes who you think should be heard, please let us know. They don’t have to be famous, or good-looking, or particularly skilled or talented–they just have to be willing to share their own special stories.

I hope you’ll consider this your forum, and become a part of our family by participating in our discussions.  Let us hear from you!  Let us hear what you wish to hear more about, in our common search for excellence.
